If only it took a heartbeat…

to create a society for all children to flourish. Protect children’s lives that have breathed the open air. Build a society where children aren’t abused and neglected — where they feel secure in all communities, not only those who can afford security. A society where a child knows they a valued for existing as though they are still womb.

The unborn reflects innocence, purity, the potential of what could be before society’s wayward grasp can tarnish them. Children are failed and made to feel worthless every day. Failed by the foster care system, festering with abuse and deceit. Failed by a strained system of education, lacking resources to help a child further their potential.

Claiming adoption is an option may be accurate in theory, but loving and compassionate parental potential — including members of the LGBTQIA+ community — struggle to be approved or blatantly rejected and denied.

The sanctity of human life has been spoiled by the conditions placed on it.

This conditional love is a devastating silent death. Maybe that unborn child “will be”…or “could be”….but what will happen when that child does not meet the expectations of their parents or society at large. Ridiculed, outcast, abandoned and even murdered.

Society aborts at all ages if that is the case, at 72 months, or 84 months old, or 192 months old, without the womb surrounding them, for no reason other than breathing. Or once you know what the fetus becomes, exemptions are made about whether life still has value. No longer the sacrifice of the innocent unborn, but a soul you called damaged not deemed worthy of living. But at one point in time, you cried for their safety. Somehow these lives to be a matter more in the womb. Before they could breathe the open air. Before you knew who they would be.

If only it took a heartbeat to recognize the value of human life. If only it took a heartbeat to care.
